Ducks trade Kase for the corpse of David Backes

Today, The Anaheim Ducks made a deal with The Boston Bruins to exchange their speedy, scoring winger Ondrej Kase for the dried out corpse of David Backes, Boston’s 2020 1st round pick, and defensive prospect Axel Andersson. Kase comes with a 2.6mil/year cap hit and is signed through next year as an expiring RFA. This gives the B’s the much needed speed and scoring for their middle 6. It also gives David Pastrnak a Czech friend to speak his native tongue and escape the vomit inducing Boston accent for a few moments each day.

This is an incredible move for the Bruins, they get the winger they needed, move out a horrible contract by only retaining 25% of the cap hit, and give up what would likely be a low 1st rd draft pick- which usually end up having about as much upside as a $2 scratch off lotto ticket anyway.

For the Ducks, this turns on the OPEN FOR BUSINESS neon sign to other GM’s that they are ready for the teardown and rebuild. I’m not a betting man (that’s what I tell my family at least) but I would take the over at 3 more deals for picks/prospects from the Ducks by the NHL draft this summer.
